1,Several converging trends explain this.

A explain(s) B.

A serve(s) as an explanation for B.

Severalconverging trends

There was a signpost where the ten pathsconverged.

2,One is growing demand for education beyond the compulsorynine years.

One is growing demand for education

beyond the compulsory nine years

这部分修饰education,thecompulsory nine years指“九年义务教育”,也可以说 the compulsory nine-year education,不过句子前面出现了education,为避免重复,作者这里有意规避掉这个词。

3,In 2011 nearly 25m Chinese were enrolled in senior secondary school(the level feeding into universities), more than twice as many as in 2000.

enrol的英文解释是toofficially arrange to join a school, university, or course, or to arrange forsomeone else to do this“入(学)、招(生)”,可以学生作主语,可以学校作主语,可以用主动,也可以用被动,用法十分灵活,比如:

I was enrolled at CFAU in 2016.

I enrolled at CFAU in 2016.

Enrollment in traditional colleges remainsrobust.

The information and questions are fed intothe computer, which then supplies the answers.
