Sert=join,
insert,表示“加入，插入”
assert v 断言；主张（as+sert→强行插入观点→断言）

一个用来分析原因的写作句式：The genesis of... lurks in...
genesis ['dʒenisis] 指的是the origin of something 起源，也就是某现象形成的“根本原因”，而lurk是“潜伏”的意思，某一现象的诱因潜伏在...，也就是“引起...的原因是...”。
它有一个孪生替换：the factor of... lies in...
写作中，可以用来代替The first reason is..., the second reason is...等白开水一样的表达。
Eg: 1, The genesis of smog lurks in coal burning and transportation emissions.
燃烧煤炭和汽车尾气的排放是引发雾霾的原因。

"development-obsessed"指“痴迷于发展的”，暗示忽视了环境保护；polluted和overcrowded点明了世界面临的两大问题：环境污染和过度拥堵。"belching smoke"和"sooty skies"进一步突显了环境污染的严重性。
一个用来表达“雷声大雨点小”的句式：Similar “smart city” projects, such as Masdar in the United Arab Emirates or South Korea’s Songdo, have spawned lots of hype but are not seen as big successes.
类似的“智能城市”项目，比如阿拉伯联合酋长国的马斯达尔或韩国的宋都，已经引发了大量炒作，但未被视为大成功。
里面有一搭配：...have spawned lots of hype but are not seen as big successes.
spawn的意思是cause sth to develop or be produced 引发，hype指的是“大肆宣传、炒作”，引发大量炒作，但并不是很成功的项目，也就是我们平时说的“雷声大雨点小”。
比如：过去，政府一直在倡导环保，但总是雷声大雨点小。我们可以说：
